This is the story of
a girl, who made her dreams come true
;)The Four Gods(;
The heavenly king divided the sky into four groups of 7 constellations, each quadrant controlled by a god beast. These deities are know as the Four Gods: Suzaku of the South, Seiryu of the East, Genbu of the North, and Byakko of the West.
SUZAKU protector of the South. Form: a heavenly bird(phoenix). Color: red "Phoenix is, Feng Huang, the sacred bird of Chinese mythology. It is usually portrayed as a beautiful bird, virtually identical to an ornamental pheasant. Few illustrations match its verbal description, as it is said to have the front of a swan, the hinder parts of a unicorn, the throat of a swallow, the bill of a chicken, the neck of a snake, the stripes of a dragon, and the arched back of a tortoise. Its plumage is of the five mystical colors - black, white, red, green and yellow, and it has twelve tail feathers, except in years when there is an extra month, when there are thirteen. It feeds on bamboo seeds, lives in the branches of the dryandera tree, and drinks from fountains of fresh water. It is one of the four emblems of royalty, usually associated with the Empress. The expression Dragon and Phoenix signifies wedded bliss. In many respects its symbolism has been confused and merged with that of the Red Bird, one of the four Celestial Emblems(Walters)".
SEIRYU protector of the East form: a heavenly dragon color: blue "One of the oldest symbolic animals, stylized forms of which are a feature of the decoration of ancient bronzes cast before the invention of writing. In complete contrast to Western mythology, however, Dragons are rarely depicted as malevolent. They may be fearsome and very powerful, and all stand in awe of the dragon-kings, but they are equally considered just, benevolent, and the bringers of wealth and good fortune. There are, of course, legends of the various immortals battling against evil dragons, but such monsters would be foreign ones. Local dragons are to be respected, feared, and petitioned as one would petition a just and honest ruler. For this reason, the dragon symbol is the sign of authority, being worn on the robes of the Imperial family and nobility.Dragons are generally considered to be aquatic, living in lakes, rivers and the sea, the larger the expanse of water, the more powerful the dragon. Nevertheless, there are dragons which inhabit the heavens, one quarter of the sky being called the Palace of the Green Dragon, in reference to the stars which in Chinese astronomy constitute the constellation of the Dragon. Even so, the appearance of the Dragon constellation is said to herald the rainy season (Walters)."
GENBU Protector of the North form: a mixture of serpent and turtle color: black In recent
times, the tortoise was supplanted by the "Black Warrior"
symbolism."One of the Celestial Emblems, the symbol of longevity
and wisdom. It is said that its shell represents the vault of the universe.
A common symbol for longevity is the Tortoise and Snake, whose union
was thought to have engendered the universe. The reason why the tortoise
symbolism has been superseded by the Black Warrior as the emblem of
the North, is probably due to the fact that 'tortoise' is a term of
abuse (Walters).""In China the tortoise had divine attributes.
Tortoise shell is a symbol of unchangeability, and a symbol or rank
when used for court girdles. The tortoise was also used for purposes
of divination.A gigantic mythical tortoise is supposed, in the Far East,
to live in the depths of ocean. It has one eye situated in the middle
of its body. Once every three thousand years it rises to the surface
and turns over on its back so that it may see the sun (Mackenzie)."
BYAKKO Protector of the West form: a tiger color: white "...The White Tiger of the West, for instance, is associated with metal. When, therefore, metal is placed in a grave, a ceremonial connection with the tiger-god is effected. 'According to the Annals of Wu and Yueh, three days after the burial of the king, the essence of the element metal assumed the shape of a white tiger and crouched down on the top of the grave.' Here the tiger is a protector - a preserver."...As we have seen, white jade was used when the Tiger god of the West was worshipped; it is known as 'tiger jade'; a tiger was depicted on the jade symbol. To the Chinese the tiger was the king of all animals and 'lord of the mountains', and the tiger-jade ornament was specially reserved for commanders of armies. The male tiger was, among other things, the god of war, and in this capacity it not only assisted the armies of the emperors, but fought the demons that threatened the dead in their graves (Mackenzie)."
of Suzaku
Full
Name: Yuuki Miaka
Birthdate: 5/12 Age: 15 Height: 158cm, approx. 5'1" Weight: 48kg Hair Color: Brown Eye Color: Brown Blood Type: B Interests: Eating and Tamahome Flaws: Eating, Naive, and Trusting The priestess
of Suzaku. Miaka gets along with almost everyone, and is the type that
is always looked after by somebody. She isn't exactly the brightest
girl in the world and can be impulsive, but she can act and talk very
adult when the occasion arises. Amazingly enough, she turns heads and
attracts all kinds of attention. She goes through much adversity yet,
can keep her spirits up. While most people would have given up on someone
like Yui, Miaka maintains an optimistic outlook on her best friend and
STILL tries to help her.
"Fighter"
One of the seven stars of Suzaku. His main goal in life is to protect the priestess. He falls in love with Miaka and they try to maintain a relationship trough a great deal of the story. His main traits are martial arts, the constant hobby of trying to make money for his family and defends Miaka and others throughout the series. At first, his relationship with Miaka is almost that of a sibling relationship but it begins to blossom into something of a beautiful love story. You see when he first meets Miaka and Yui, he rescues them and expects to be paid by them. When he doesn't get what he wants he leaves them to fend for themselves. But it also turns out that he has a sweet side which you get to see as the series progresses (but that still doesn't stop him from asking people money for his services.) Tamahome is a rather loyal person who is willing to sacrifice almost anything for those he loves (especially his rather large family and of course, Miaka.)
"Prince
Swordsman" Although one of the seven stars of Suzaku, he is also the emperor of Konan. Hotohori, we will later find out, has loved the girl of the legend for over 10 years, and when she arrives he hoped that she would love him as well. Because he believe that she will alleviate some of his loneliness, but that doesn't quite work out that way. His main traits are expert fencing abilities and being especially gorgeous. He is the emperor of Konan and one of the seven seishi of Suzaku. He is a skilled swordsman who is beautiful and he knows it. Although he seems to be a bit narcissistic (if saying, "I'm so beautiful it's scary") he truly is a rather gentle peace-loving person. Being emperor at the early age of 14, Hotohori had to grow up rather fast and has led a rather cramped and sheltered life, ignorant of the world outside (it's especially apparent when he meets Tamahome's family.) He is the second person Miaka encounters and he's the one who relays the legend of the Four Gods to her. . That' s the kind of guy Hotohori is, he is honorable, intelligent and beautiful. He will fight to the death for those he loves.
"Court
Warrior" Another one of the seven stars of Suzaku. At the loss of his sister as a child he vowed to never forget her by becoming her. He dresses up as a girl for a large part of the story until he realizes that he needs to be himself. His main traits are superhuman strength and a good fashion sense. Nuriko starts out to be a spoiled princess who is jealous of Miaka since Miaka seems to have Hotohori's attention to herself. When Nuriko is first encountered she's not exactly what she seems. As the series progresses, we find that Nuriko is very good natured and becomes a very good girl friend to Miaka and is always there for her as well as the other seishi. Nuriko is well of good advice not to mention a wonderful confidant, big sibling, protector and the occasional good joke. Nuriko is a wonderful character and the strength and loyalty displayed proves it.
"Face
of the Monk" The only one of the seven stars of Suzaku that possesses a great deal of magic. . A wondering monk and the only magician of the seven seishi. He is elusive, mysterious and hermit-like. He can be incredibly silly (especially when he's in superdeformed mode) but also very serious. This character is very together and he definitely is sensible, practical and logical. Chichiri is an excellent advisor who is always calm when he's serious but can also be humorous as well. He wears a fox eyed mask that looks very "genki" (happy) which hides his scarred face. He doesn't wear it because he's vain (the guy is far from vanity), but to hide that part of his past (which is really sad.)
"Mountain
Fire" The most stubborn of the seven stars of Suzaku. He was originally the leader of a band of mountain bandits. He curses like a sailor (well, he could probably scare one with that mouth). Tasuki's weapon of choice is a iron fan that burns anything he wants to burn (namely Tamahome who he loves to tease and call "little ghost".) He's the most fun of all the characters and very easily liked. But like many tough manlike characters he can be a softie and will do anything for his friends.
"Healer"
The only
of the seven stars of Suzaku that has healing powers. He lost the love
of his life, Shoka, to a disease while he was away caring for others;
he always blamed himself for her death. He also has an affinity for
animals as well (Tama is his cat). He's a rather large and quiet man
who when first encountered by Miaka and her seishi, retreated from society
when he couldn't save the one he loved the most. It's a rather sweet
and sad story and unfortunately his character doesn't do much afterward
other than heal a couple of times. He truly has the soul of a doctor
who wants to save whoever he can at all costs. He has the power to heal
with his hands but it takes a lot out of him and he can only use it
once a day. He is a very gentile man who is noble and calm.
"Knowledgeable
Child" The youngest of the seven stars of Suzaku. He spends a great deal of his time studying. The adorable little boy who comes a little too late when Miaka tries to summon Suzaku the first time around. The series doesn't really go into Chiriko's personality much but the manga does. Chiriko is a very intelligent 13 year old who likes to study and has a very high IQ. He's also pretty small for his age and gets attached to Tasuki (visit http://www.prettyodango.net/tasukiandchiriko/together). Like many young impressionable boys he looks up to his elders and he's a sweet and respectful little boy.
;)Characters(; of Seiryu
Name: Hongo
Yui The priestess of Seiryu. She is Miaka's best friend, and is pulled into the book two times. The first time she is taken back into the real world almost instantly, but the second time she is brought in she is put in a dangerous place by herself. Thinking that she had been raped she tries to kill herself, but is saved by Nakago. Eventually she blames Miaka for her shortcomings and becomes the priestess of Seiryu just to spite her. Her main traits are studying and conjuring up ways to steal Tamahome from Miaka.
Name: Nakago The leader of the Seiryu Seven. He is general of two-thirds of the Kutou army. He is the quiet type that uses his serene nature to manipulate people's emotions. He claims to love Yui but you never know with him... His main traits are the ability to use chi to it's best and picking on Tamahome, evilness and perhaps one of the best evil characters . In Fushigi Yuugi, he easily turns Yui against Miaka in the worst possible way. He is a rather intelligent, prepared character, very calm, and ultimately cruel. Nakago is always on his toes and is well aware of the events that unfold around him. It isn't until the end of the series when one can't help but pity the guy .
Real Name:
Bu Koutoku The nicest of the Seiryu Seven. He originally is a spy for the Seiryu clan but later becomes more understanding. His main traits are the ability to play the flute and drain life energy using his music. Amiboshi is the oldest twin and when their parents died he had to become the parent for his younger twin. He is caring and devoted but capable of violence. He's the gentle one who is thoughtful and loves his younger brother dearly. He becomes torn between being the seishi of Seiryuu and what Suzauku seishi stands for. He pretty much "sacrifices" himself to give the Suzaku seishi and advantage. His weapon of choice is the flute which he can manipulate
Real Name:
Bu Shunkaku He is Amiboshi's identical twin brother and the third of the Seiryu Seven. He falls in love with Yui but the love is never reciprocated. His main traits are controlling "Ryuseisui" by psychokinesis. Suboshi is the exact opposite of his brother. His actions pretty much center themselves towards the one's he loves the most like his brother and Yui and if harm comes to them he lashes out against the person who "hurt" them. He's pretty much like a small child who doesn't think about how his actions affect other people. His weapon of choice is the Ryuuseisui which is looks like a couple of spinning yo-yo's.
Real Name:
Haku Kaen The only female in the Seiryu Seven. She is in love with Nakago and would risk her life to be with him. Her main traits are the control of lightning and the use of her "charms" to make men do her bidding. She is clever, brave and determined. She won`t hesitate to give her life for anyone else she loves. Normally she is a nice person, yet if Nakago tells her to she can be very cruel. Yet my favorite moment is when she lets Miaka go to Tamahome after having tricked him. It shows that she's actually a very nice person. At the end, she too is only a love-struck girl.
The ugliest of the Seiryu Seven. He is like an animal that can track and hunt any given prey. His main traits are eating human flesh and turning into a wolf.
Real Name:
Chiun Rou
Name: Miboshi The oldest of the Seiryu Seven. No one really knows how old he is because he has the ability to leave his body and steal others. His main traits are manipulating others and controlling them at will.
Characters of Genbu
Age: 14 Takiko Okuda
was the first miko to appear, about 200 years before Miaka and Yui discover
the book of the four gods. Before becoming Genbu no Miko, Takiko's focus
is mostly on her grades as a student. Though she is not extremely intelligent,
she studies hard, hoping to please her single-parent father who opposes
her schooling, believing that women should marry as soon as possible
and raise a family. She was the one to bring the book from China to Japan,
(actually, her father did). After she made her wishes she returned to
Japan, apparently being consumed by Genbu. She was dying and her father,
Einosuke Okuda, wanted to end her suffering. He ended up killing her
before killing himself.
Real Name:
Tan Chamka Hikitsu,a
Genbu seishi, along with Tomite is dead. They stayed behind 200 years
after death to guard the shinzao from Genbu's summoning ceremony from
the wrong hands. Later in the Anime Miaka and the Suzaku seishi encounter
his spirit his physical body had since been reclaimed by the earth,
leaving Hikitsu as an insubstantial spirit...yet still retaining his
seishi powers.Although dead he has a lot of power. When Genbu no Miko
called Genbu and went back to her world, she left a Shinzaho (an item
worn during the summoning that became a relic). Hikitsu seems to be
the more forth-coming of the two Genbu seishi, talking freely once Miaka
had proved herself.
Real Name:
Tan Chamka
Background: Iname's mother died a few days after giving birth to him. It was a late pregnancy and she was a weak woman at the time. He lived with his father, who was a warrior of some sort (vague I know, but I haven't filled in all the tiny details yet), and his elder brother of 11 years. When Iname was 6, his father was killed (don't know the specifics on that either yet). His brother Shaiming was courting Lian, a lady who owned a sheep farm and a lot of land. Her father was glad to marry Shaiming to a warrior's son and when they moved in, he taught Shai and Iname everything he knew about sheep before he passed away some few years later. Shai and Lian now have a son, Lang. While Iname (Deshi) tends the sheep everyday, Shai makes pilgrimages into the nearby villages selling wool and the cloth that Lian stays home to make everyday.Iname knows of his powers and because of his father, knows exactly what it's for. He has a fear of leaving his family because of the pain losing his father brought him, but now he's ready to get off of the sheep farm and into the world. He also had a lover (nearly 3 years ago) in the nearby village but lost her when her father refused his proposal in lieu of a richer man's proposal.A bit conservative at times... he likes to weigh the risks and avoid premature action. This is assuming he's calm and rational at the time too. Open and positive by nature, he extends warmth and friendship to all he is familiar with. He can be sensitive and passionate, soft-hearted and friendly... and subject to being taken advantage of by friends. Saying "no" is hard for him, but never think that just because he's said 'yes' that you'll come out on top. Under that facade that's a much stability, charm, calm and awkwardness, he is more intelligent than he seems. His is the intelligence that comes with slow methodical analysis. Unfortunately, his answers tend to be in black or white.... and not the 'greys' that exist in life. Highly sensitive to the environment and climactic change he is happiest when he is outdoors. Hiking, climbing... whatnot. This is the only thing that can make him consider going someplace new. Otherwise he's a homebody. Stubborn as a bull... VERY stubborn. It's almost impossible to get him to change his mind once it's set. Then again.... that seems to be the case with most Genbu seishi.... Once he's made up his mind however, he'll proceed step-by-step instinctively, enduring any obstacle that lies ahead. Almost always, they cannot be deflected from the course they have chosen, once they have finally chosen it. Real Name:Han
Kairu or Rimundo When it
is visible he turns into a woman. He, the youngest Genbu Seishi , is
only able to use his special power in his female form. As woman he is
is able to control wind and use it to fight or even *fly*. Soruen seems
to be his servant. Rimudo seems to be having problems with his father
but we don't know yet what they are about. He does not want to become
a Seishi of Genbu and wants nothing to do with the whole story, but
he is the first to meet and help Takiko, the Priestess of Genbu. Fending
for herself ever since she was small, Uruki despises anyone, woman or
man, who treats her/him like a helpless child or even as a woman. Surprisingly
mature for her/his age, she desires most to be respected by her/him
fellow seishi as a peer and friend. (For more info go on http://www.geocities.com/alightbeyondtheglass/urukiprof.html)
Namame RealName:
Kouru Hirashu Namame is the quiet seishi, the quiet and gentle dreamwalker that the other seishi look up to with a kind of awe. Once a fortuneteller for his people in Northern Hokkan, he acts as the eyes of the small band. Ironically, Namame is blind. His past, like many of the others, is shadowed and is the one thing about which he will not speak.
Characters of Byakko
Birthdate:
Jaunary 17 Suzuno was
supposedly a very gentle, loving, caring girl. She was tall and slender,
with blue eyes and brown hair, which she wore in two long braids. At
the time Byakko No Miko appeared, it was a time of peace for all. Suzuno
gathered her seven Byakko Seishi, in order to call Byakko and make her
wishes come true. Her elegant sweetness was beloved by all of her Byakko
Seishi, who were her dearest friends and who respected her kindness
and friendship.Suzuno fell in love with Tatara, one of her Seishi, who
loved her also. The two of them wished to be together forever. However,
when Byakko was called, the god could not grant Suzunos wish of
staying in the book world. Byakko explained, when a god was called,
Mikos duty was over, she had to return to her world. Sadly, Suzuno
and Tatara were forced to separate, but they vowed to forever love each
other, and be together again someday in the future, in death. Suzunos
will was strengthened by her love for Tatara, and her determination
to be with him in the future, so when she called her god, she was not
absorbed as Takiko was. During the ceremony to call Byakko, Suzuno held
a silver mirror in her hands. When Byakko appeared, this mirror was
imbued with power and became the second Shinzaho. Suzuno entrusted it
to Tatara, as a memento of her love for him. When Suzuno returned, her
father had the "Shi Jin Ten Chi Sho" locked away from the
public, in the National Librarys Important Documents Reference
Room, where later Miaka and Yui find it. Suzuno is still alive in the
modern world, when Miaka and Yui are in the book, but she is very aged
and close to death. Though Suzuno never married, she did adopt children.
Her adopted grandson, Toki, is the person who looks after her in her
old age. Toki never believed her tales of being absorbed into a book,
and becoming Byakko No MikoKeisuke and Tetsuya come to visit Suzuno,
seeking answers, bringing the "Shi Jin Ten Chi Sho" with them.
In the meantime, within the book, Tatara is exhausted and dying. Keisuke
and Tetsuya read Tataras final words to the elderly Suzuno, as
Tatara speaks of his undying love for her, and dies. Knowing that their
love had lasted and their vow had been fulfilled, Suzuno dies at the
same moment in the real worldSuzunos spirit arises from the body
of the dead old lady, looking as she did when she was Byakko No Miko.
Suzuno then runs out to be with her beloved Tatara, reunited at last.(http://mx.msnusers.com/BluesandRosesAnimePalace/miakayuki.msnw)
Real Name:
Hahm Lan-uan Tokaki is the husband of Subaru. Tokaki has the bad habit of roaming in search of beautiful women, including Miaka. He is mostly comparable to Tamahome himself because of his freat fighting.
Real Name:

Toroki's seishi symbol is located on the center of his chest.
;)Minor Characters(; in the Book
Taiitsu-kun can see anything from all over the land in the book. Although she is an ugly old woman, she is very kind and wise, and helps Miaka and her Warriors. Taiitsu-kun lives on Mount Taikyoku, a magical mountain in the center of the world, that only the Warriors and Priestess can travel to because of their powers. To all others, it is a mere mountain covered with rocks. Taiitsu-kun is very ancient; she was the one who gave each of the countries their copy of the "Shi Jin Ten Chi Sho" long, long ago.. She is extremely powerful and can use her magic in many ways, although her preferred source is through mirrors. Taiisu-kun is the one to train Chichiri before he became a Celestrial Warrior. Taiitsu-kun instructs Miaka and the Warriors with her wisdom, aiding them in their quest and encouraging them to never give up.
;)Minor Characters(; in the Present World
Name :
Yuuki Keisuke Keisuke is Miaka's older brother, almost always called Oniichan. When both Miaka and Yui are in the book, someone needs to read it back in the real world and that isKeisuke. After following Miaka to the library and watching her disappear into the book at her will, he picks it up and continues to read. He and his best friend Tetsuya (see above) spend the rest of the series reading the book, and researching The Universe of the Four Gods' Earth and Sky.
Name: Kajiwara
Tetsuya Tetsuya is one of Keisuke's good friends. If you ever see him with his sunglasses (you're lucky, look at the picture)of celebrate because he wears it rain, shine, inside or outside. Tesuya pesters Keisuke about the book and became fascinated by the book's powers. Unlike other cool guys he is unselfish and volunteers to help Keisuke in his quest to find out about the origins of the Universe of the Four Gods book and what kind of power it holds. Late in the story Tetsuya and Keisuke play their own part in the book's story, and later Tetsuya develops feelings for Yui, as seen by his protectiveness and worried attitude concerning her.
